Boardwalk marching

I remember the many marches along Atlantic City's boardwalk and the assemblies in what is now Boardwalk Hall. Most unpleasant was the walk from the fifth floor of the Chelsea Hotel, where we were billeted. We were not permitted to use the elevators. When we formed up outside the hotel in the morning, we would be told of a change in the uniform of the day. Then it was up the stairs and back down, only to be told of another uniform change. Those were the bad times.

The few good times were when were were allowed to spend a few minutes in the surf.
