Catch edge down!

This story is about our barracks inspection. We were probably halfway through boot camp when this took place. All of us were standing at attention by our bunks as the company commanders inspected each locker and bunk. As you all know, there is a right and wrong way to put your top sheet on your bunk. The catch edge has to be down, of course; this is how they trained us. The company commanders would run their fingers down to the edge of the sheet, and if their fingernails would catch on the hem of the sheet it was on upside down. The first recruit that got caught had his bunk torn all apart and had to stand outside on the balcony yelling "Catch edge down!" over and over until the inspection was done. The second one had to run around the barracks until the inspection was over, yelling "I'm the catch edge fairy!" Both recruits had their sheets on top of their heads. I had a hard time keeping a straight face while all of this yelling was going on.
