Thanks to Sgt. Howard Sill

I went through basic training in 1961 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. My platoon leader was Staff Sgt. Howard Sill. He had served in World War II and was perhaps the most competent soldier I have ever known. He was tough, caring and liked by all. We kept in touch after I got out and he retired. I never had to be in combat; however, if I ever had to I would want to be shoulder to shoulder with him.
