I'm not sure if this was true for other flights, but each morning the training instructor would call our barracks on the phone to have the door guard wake us. Some 35-plus years later, I still hate to hear the sound of a telephone bell ring—no matter what time of the day. I've kept the ringer on the phone turned off ever since.
