In January 1954, while in basic at Fort Knox, Ky., we failed an inspection of foot lockers, etc., so at 2 a.m. we were ordered out to the CO. Street – uniforms were skivvies, boots and foot lockers at right shoulder arms. We were forced to run around a football field!

We never failed again.
