Thanks For the Memories

I joined the USAF in 1963. Being raised by a Father who served in WWII in Southern Europe and then becoming a Policeman, I had no problem with discipline and commitment. I really thought 8 weeks of Basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas would be a walk in the park!

Little did I know that when you enlist, you become a G.I."Government Issue".
First day out, you are stripped naked and they issue you what you will wear, then they cut off all your hair. They call it the great equalizer. We all look like meatballs.

Later, you get these whole series of shots with pneumatic injector guns Marched over and over, while swinging your arms, march back hanging them!

Near the end of training, comes the obstacle course. The record then was held by an "Explorer Scout! Or so we thought. We have never seen so many injuries, cuts and outright freaked soldiers. A lesson learned for all.

I did not know then, but know it now, 50 years later, that they knew how I should lived my life and they knew exactly what they were doing to make it happen.

Commitment, over 50 years with the Love of my life and still going. Disciplined to always move forward and never ever give up.

Thanks, USAF
