Basic Stress

In October 1968, I started basic at FT. Lewis, WA. Basic can be a tad stressful and entering the rainy season near Seattle added to that.

One fellow in our Company would occasionally talk in his sleep which usually amounted to some low mumbling we either didn't really hear or ignored. One night, we were all awakened by a very loud voice shouting ATTENTION!

We fell out and were at attention by our bunks for several minutes before we realized nobody was coming at 3 am for inspection. Then we noticed the sleep talker was comfortably still in his bunk. Lights out and back to sleep.

We gave him a pretty bad time over that for several days afterward.
