Sampson AFB

I joined the Air Force on July 10, 1951 and my basic training was at Sampson AFB, NY, Flight 510. I was the last flight to be reissued ODs from WW2. I still have the complete uniform with the Ike jacket. I was later issued blues but the ODs were my favorite.
I remember going through the tear gas chamber which was normal. But right after that, outside, we ran through a charge of mustard gas and then phosgene gas. I'll bet they don't do that anymore.
I was sent to radio operator school at Kessler AFB, MS. I'll bet I was one of the few who was never stationed in Texas. My overseas duty was a year at Thule AB, Greenland. I am still proud of my four years service.
