The day after basic

I graduated from AF Basic Training in the summer of 1965. Me and two other guys were to remain at the barricks for one more day due to transportation arrangements. I was assigned to the Crypto School on Lackland and the other two to the Air Police School. Since we had to spend the day there our TI put us to work making the beds. It was a 60 plus man barracks so it was a job for the 3 of us. We did the 1st floor OK but when we got to the second floor we decided to short sheet all the beds. That totaled 30+ beds. We were given a small bunk area beside the TI's office to sleep in. About 0200 the new recruits arrived. Lost, bewildered, tired and being hollered at by the TI to get to bed they dropped their bags and started to get in the beds. We watch through the crack of the door as chaos reigned as they tried to get in those beds. We had a good laugh. The TI figured it out and came charging into our bunk room. As soon as he got there he almost fell down laughing. He then chewed us a little, got his game face back on and charged back in the barricks telling them to tear the beds apart and get in them. The next day we caught the bus.
