The DI that made the difference

I attended basic training at Ft Dix, NJ in 1979. C-3-3 boom, boom side the head Red Devils! We were on our first company run, after some period of time I fell out and hit the ground. My DI walked up to me and placed his boot on my back and quietly but firmly asked, "would you rather be here with me or running with the company?" I never fell out a run again in my 21 years of service. By the way, at that time I was 30 years old and had never had to run for anything in my life.
