DRAFTED for Vietnam

In March 1969 I joined the US Air Force. I joked I was doing it to avoid being drafted and sent to Vietnam (I was sent there anyway). I really wanted to get out of my hometown and see the world. I saw LOTS of runways.
In 1969 the draft was in full force. About two weeks into basic training one of the guys in our flight recieved a letter that came to his home address. His parents sent it on to Lackland AFB. When he opened it it was a letter from his draft board stating 'Report for induction!' He gave it to our TI (AF name for DI) The TI laughed so hard I thought he was going to hurt himself!.
The TI took the letter and our flight member never heard from them again. Guess the Army lost a recruit.
