Cold feet

I was in basic training from Oct. 1963 through Dec. 1963. Late in training we had to go out on a bivouac and sleep in pup tents. Very early in the morning I woke up and noticed that my feet were very cold. The rest of me was fine in my GI-issued sleeping bag. I got up on my elbows (there is not much room in a pup tent) and saw that the flap on my side was folded in and my feet were sticking out. So I thought, aha, that was why they were cold! I leaned over to move the flap and found out that it had snowed overnight. What a surprise. There were two inches of snow on my feet. That was why they were so cold!
