AMERICAN LEGION POST 96 NEWS RELEASE Post 96 Honors Willow Canyon High School Boys State Attendees at September 19 Meeting.

Surprise, AZ

Joseph Q. Johnson Post 96 sends High School Juniors to the American Legion Program Boys State every year. This is a week-long camp in Flagstaff in June. At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
Members of the Post interview students and choose, with great difficulty, the boys to attend. Willow Canyon Guidance Counselors screen applicants with outstanding scholastic and social standings.
