I owe the Army, they don't owe me

I was in one of the last WWII draft calls. After basic I was asked if I wanted to be trained as a Japanese translator or as a cryptographic technician maintaining equipment. That was a easy choice. After only a short time in Europe I was discharged and took advantage of the GI Bill and went to engineering college. Since my service had piqued my interest in mechanical things, that "made my whole career."
