Honor Flight

Miami, FL

On April 2, 2016, Legionnaires from Post 346 in Miami were selected to accompany World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., for the day.
The members selected were Vietnam era veterans. They were Commander Jorge Montes, Gene Gotay, Jeff Wander, Frank Penela, Luis Lalama and William Peraza. A total of 77 Vietnam Vets escorted 77 WWII vets on a trip that took them to the nation's capital.
Once they arrived they were bused by police escort to Arlington National Ceremony, then to the WWII memorial, and then to the Vietnam Wall memorial. The veterans were given lunch at The Knights of Columbus.
They received "mail call" en route to Miami International Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, they received a water cannon salute and a homecoming which consisted of about 2,500 people. A well deserved honor for both groups of veterans.
