John W. Pfluke enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Buffalo, N.Y., on July 17, 1918. He was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station, Illinois, from July 18, 1918 until Nov. 11, 1918. He served as a landsman for Machinist's Mate - Aviation and was discharged on Jan. 10, 1919.

He was active in The American Legion for the rest of his life, including serving as commander of the post in Peoria, Ill.
