Annual Memorial Day Weekend event (May 29, 2021)

American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25 - Newport News , VA

On Saturday, May 29, American Legion Braxton-Perkins Post 25 in Newport News, Va., conducted its annual Memorial Day Weekend event.

The post members, with members of American Legion Braxton-Perkins Auxiliary Unit 25, Sons of The American Legion Braxton-Perkins Squadron 25, Navy sailors from USS George Washington (CVN-73), Air Force airmen from Air Sergeants Association Chapter 358 from Langley Air Base, Army personnel from U.S. Army Recruiting Center Newport News, veterans from Newport News Shipyard and citizens placed 4,000 U.S. flags at veterans' graves. The graves were located primarily at Peninsula Memorial and Greenlawn Memorial Cemeteries in Newport News. Post 25 greatly appreciated everyone who participated in placing flags at each veteran's grave.

The post will continue Memorial Day Weekend with both a virtual ceremony on Monday, May 31, and retrieving the same U.S. flags on Tuesday, June 1.
