Cedarburg (Wis.) American Legion Post 288 Memorial Day parade and remembrance ceremony

Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 - Cedarburg, WI

Our post starts planning for Memorial Day in January every year. Our third vice commander heads up this group of volunteers with a committee of 12 persons, including Auxiliary Unit 288 and SAL Squadron 288 participating. We meet once every month through May. Our parade has 28 units (not bad for a small town of 11K residents), including the local high school band and an elementary school band as well as the Cedarburg Civic Band. Following the parade, we have a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony with proper opening and closing ceremonies, and a keynote speaker. We always have a honored veteran, but this year we decided to honor three WWII veterans at our ceremony, which lasts about 50 minutes. Everyone in the community is invited to attend. Following the ceremony, our post is open for free food and beverages.
