2022 Memorial Day ceremony - Chesterfield, S.C.

74 - Chesterfield, SC

The Chesterfield County Veterans Advisory Committee and Office of Veterans Affairs held the 2022 Memorial Day ceremony at the Chesterfield County Courthouse in Chesterfield, S.C., on Monday, May 30.

All veterans and members of the community were invited to show their patriotism and honor those who have sacrificed so much for our nation’s freedoms by attending the memorial service. Colors were posted by Cheraw High Marine Corps Junior ROTC. Charlie Teal, the only WWII veteran in attendance, is a member at Post 74; he was recognized as a special guest.

Representatives from Chesterfield County veterans’ organizations participated in the reading of deceased veterans' names. Members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 74 distributed poppies, and at the end of the program attendees were given flags to place on the graves of veterans at local cemeteries.

This was the second year the Hospice of Chesterfield County Foundation collaborated with Chesterfield County veterans organizations and offered “Bows for the Brave” for Memorial Day. The goal was to have a bow at every business, church and home for Memorial Day. Due to a generous donation from a member of the community, the foundation director was able to donate two dozen bows to the American Legion Post 74 commander and Auxiliary Unit 74 vice president to distribute freely to veterans and the local community.
