Veterans' memorial in Sun City, Georgetown, Texas

Round Rock, TX

On Memorial Day 2003, we dedicated a veterans' memorial in Sun City which is part of the city of Georgetown, Texas. It is entitled the Georgetown/Williamson County Memorial. It consists of an 80-foot-wide wall that is 6 feet high. There is a separate wall that is 16 by 6 feet that lists all residents of Williamson County, Texas, who lost their lives in combat back to the Spanish-American War.
The memorial is located within Sun City. There is a plaza with over 12,000 bricks, of which over 2,000 have been engraved with names of people who have purchased the bricks, which is how the memorial was built and is maintained. Currently there are 173 names on the Wall of Honor of combat casualties.
We hold both Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies every year. All the commanding generals have been guest speakers, as have Congressman John Carter, Sen. John Cornyn and Gov. Rick Perry, plus the Command Sergeant Major of the Army.
