Eagle Scout creates "Flags of Gratitude" memorial

Prescott Valley, AZ

Justin Berry, an Eagle Scout with Troop 7007 and also a member of Sons of The American Legion Squadron 140 in Prescott Valley, Ariz., completed a memorable project. He wanted to create something impactful for veterans. He called his project “Flags of Gratitude.” Justin’s project was to install six flagpoles in a semicircle around the existing American flag at American Legion Park in Prescott Valley. Each flagpole has a flag from one of the service branches. Thanks to some very generous donors, family and friends, Justin was able to complete this project.

Justin worked on this project for two years and it was completed in August 2022. On Oct. 15, 2022, Justin held a dedication ceremony at American Legion Park. Justin said, “I held a dedication ceremony, with local government, veterans, friends, family and donors all attending. This is where a project like this mattered. I got to see firsthand the positive impact it made on the community. There was a great turnout and it revealed how significant things like this can be to veterans. Creating 'Flags of Gratitude' was a great experience, not only improving the community but myself; my entire goal was to create a lasting, important project, and the flagpoles seem to have done just the thing.” Among those in attendance were Department of Arizona Commander Mike Simon, several officers from the department, and Prescott Valley Councilman Roger Kinsinger.
We are very proud of Justin. He is a shining star and has a bright future.
