Post 21 first vice commander raises awareness at dance competition

The Colony, TX

Most people say public speaking is the scariest thing they can think of. Imagine ballroom dancing in front of a large group of people!

That’s exactly what Post 21 1st Vice Commander Richard “Dick” Ensweiler and his wife, The Colony Councilwoman Judy Ensweiler, did to bring attention to veterans issues in the community.

The United Way of Denton County's 11th annual Dancing with Our Stars United Way Tribute is a friendly dance competition showcasing a troupe of community volunteer dancers. Dick and Judy accepted the challenge to perform the Latin merengue at the event. They dedicated weeks of practice learning the intricate dance steps, which included a twisting over-their-heads move appropriately called “the pretzel.”

Each pair of dancers are there to help raise awareness and funds to serve children, families, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and those affected by mental illness. During the event, a video was shown of Dick and Judy promoting support for veterans and veteran issues.

Competing against nine other couples, Dick and Judy hit the dance floor a total of three times that evening to show off their moves. At the end of the night, Dick and Judy were named winners of the coveted mirror ball trophy and proclaimed the Champions of the 2023 United Way Tribute Dancing with Our Stars! Congratulations and well done!
