On July 21, 2015, I officially transferred into Post 51 of Whittier, Calif.
I wanted to do a story about how that process happened and at the same share another veteran’s story.
At a local city concert I met Dennis Knight Sr., 1st Vice Commander for Post 51.
We started a conversation, I accepted and went to the Legion meeting, and voila - I officially transferred from Post 1000 to Post 51.
My co-host Armando F. Sanchez and I visited Knight at his home and spent about an hour telling stories about our respective military service, and the mission and challenges of the Legion. Time passed very quickly.
Dennis Knight Sr., U.S. Army, Vietnam veteran
Knight was drafted in 1970 and was in Vietnam in 1971. He served for 18 months and left the service as a SP/4. He is a current member of both the VFW and Post 51 (serving as 1st Vice Chairman in charge of membership).
I truly had a humbling experience hearing his personal military experience. I also look forward to hearing stories from the members of Post 51.
