Four Chaplains Memorial Service

Trenton, NJ

On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, the American Legion Department of New Jersey will conduct a memorial service, as we do every year, honoring the heroism of the four chaplains on the Dorchester. These men willingly gave up their lifejackets so that others may survive. They gave up their lives for the sake of others.
We will be conducting a service at the Cathedral of the Air at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Our keynote speaker will be Christine Beady, who is the executive director of the Four Chaplains organization based in Philadelphia.
She will be bringing with her Lynn Pickering, who is the granddaughter of a survivor of the Dorchester sinking.
Also offering a greeting will be the commander of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst as well as the chaplain who takes part in the remembrance.
These four chaplains - Rev. George L. Fox, Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Rev. Clark B. Poling and Rev. Johnny P. Washington - are all examples of what America is all about and of veterans helping veterans.
May their souls and the souls of all those who perished on that day rest in everlasting peace.

God Bless Them and God Bless the USA!
