Four Chaplains ceremony

LeRoy, NY

The Village of LeRoy, N.Y., located between Buffalo and Rochester on the NYS Thruway (Exit 74), is the proud home of a monument to the Four Chaplains.
The monument was donated and placed in the village park, designated as Trigon Park. Each February our local post, Botts-Fiorito Post 576, joins with the Genesee County American Legion in conducting the Four Chaplains Memorial Ceremony. The program begins in the local United Methodist Church, adjacent to the memorial. A brief program including posting of colors by the County Honor Guard is followed by a brief overview and recount of the heroic deeds of the Chaplains.
There is a presentation by local guest clergy, followed by the singing of hymns to the accompaniment of the church organist. The program is concluded with the retirement of colors, and the entire group then proceeds to the monument itself where a remembrance wreath is placed to acknowledge and thank these brave men for their selfless actions.
Because it is February in upstate New York, all are invited back to the post home to a reception of refreshments, snacks and a warm reception hosted by the post Auxiliary unit.
