Cookies for veterans

Little Valley, NY

On a rather weary, weatherly night, a small community of people came together to thank veterans in the sweetest way. There were several community members who baked cookies to donate to Little Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post 531. The Auxiliary then met with local kids and their parents to decorate these treats that would be delivered to veterans.
A total of 17 containers of decorative cookies were delivered. One box was delivered to a female veteran who maintains her household and is completing her master's degree. The boxes were delivered to homebound, working and many other veterans of all branches and backgrounds. Cookies may not seem like a big deal, but one local girl never came to know the relationship of being a military family. She was married in spring 2018, and by fall a few weeks pregnant, her Army husband was laid to rest. It’s not about getting cookies, it’s about letting our veterans and their families know we are here for them.
A young 5th-grade Junior Auxiliary member was thrilled to decorate and deliver to her brother. He is active duty serving with the 2/17 Division of the Army and home on leave. A young 1st-grade boy couldn’t wait to decorate cookies for his neighbor who is a Marine and coming home for Christmas.
The community did a great job to add a little extra sweetness this season to our veterans.
