Post 21 assists in LPGA July 4 event

The Colony, TX

The Volunteers of America (VOA) Classic LPGA Tournament did more than showcase the world’s top women golfers this Fourth of July weekend at The Old American Golf Course, The Colony, Texas. This event demonstrated the true American spirit of celebrating sports competition, diversity, honoring veterans and patriotism.

Fans came out strong in their red, white and blue attire on July 4 for the final round of competition. The color guard from Holley-Riddle Post 21 kicked off the day by presenting the colors, honoring our nation on its 245th birthday.

Members of Post 21 also had the privilege of flag-pin attendant duty on Hole 18 for the entire round. VOA staff considered it fitting that veterans take this task on, as the flag stick had a replica of the American flag. Color guard member Mike Korns said he was truly touched by the way caddies and golfers thanked him for his service throughout the day. The fans also honored our vets as they walked off the green with clapping and cheering. It was a great day to celebrate America and all that it is, and it was an amazing day for our veterans who were so warmly honored.
