American Legion National Convention Color Guard Competition

Fountain Hills, AZ

Phoenix hosted the 102nd American Legion National Convention at the Phoenix Convention Center.

On Friday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m., color guards from several states competed for the national title. The Post 58 Color Guard was entered and formerly won the national championship in 2018, and was the Arizona state champion in 2018, 2019 and currently.

The Post 58 guard participated in Advancing/Retiring Colors and the Military Class, both of which require a precise and complicated marching routine. The members of the Post 58 Color Guard are Kevin Wood, American flag bearer, Tait Elkie, American Legion flag bearer, Phil Yin, lead rifleman, and Gerry Jacobus, trailing rifleman. They faced stiff competition from Newport Harbor, Calif., the Department of Massachusetts and Harrisburg, Texas, and in a very close competition took third place.
