My fifth grade students and I shared the picture book by Eve Bunting, "The Wall" about a young boy visiting the Vietnam Memorial to honor his grandfather. We then watched 2 short videos. There wasn't a dry eye. Students then brainstormed endings to the stems and we compiled it into a class poem. It was the most powerful afternoon of teaching this year.
