Over the years the state headquarters has received U.S. flags that need to be retired, but only during office hours. This past spring the department received information from the American Security Cabinet company in St. Cloud, Minn., about its line of cabinets.

In the past, the headquarters has attempted to purchase a U.S. mailbox from the postal service. However, after 9/11 such purchases were no longer allowed.

In June the department received its new cabinet. Now, the department advertises that it now offers this service to Lansing area business and residents.
