April 2010 The American Legion’s National Commander Got Royal Welcomed At DIA

322 - Denver, CO

Jim Otto, a member of TSA, thought it might be a nice idea to put on a real welcome for National Commander, Clarence Hill, when he visited Colorado last April.

Jim is the Department's District 5 Sr. Vice Commander and a member of the TSA honor guard, and used the visit as a training-session for the honor guard. Jim set up the color guard, a bagpiper, and gate passes for several of the top people in the American Legion in Colorado to meet the National Commander at his plane.

A visit to the USO at DIA was also arranged, and at the USO Cmdr. Hill was told that he was standing in the middle of the newest Legion post in Colorado. 15 TSA officers had just turned in applications for a post at the airport. Post 322 will be named for navy seal Daniel P. Dietz, Jr. when it applies for it’s permanent charter. The post is planning to aid the families of airport employees that are deployed on active duty, as well as to assist the USO in serving the active duty that go through the airport on a daily basis.

TSA officers involved include Jim Otto, Desmond Sarnella, Chris Stillman, Matt Scarry, Patty Zeller, John Lucero, and Karol Young. Jim, Desmond, and Chris are all Legionnaires.
