John Olson Post 18 Lockport IL Rededication Ceremony on Memorial Day

John Olson Post 18 - Lockport, IL

John Olson Post 18 Lockport IL is celebrating our 90th anniversary. Memorial Day has marked a rededication ceremony honoring our namesake, John Olson.

Our Post is named after John Olson. He was an immigrant from Sweden who moved to Lockport, IL in 1910. John worked at the Texas Company in Lockport for seven years before being selected for service in the U.S. Army. John served in World War I and was killed in action on September 26, 1918.

One special focus this anniversary year was to preserve our commitment to Lockport in honoring our namesake, John Olson. I am honored to announce that John Olson has a new tombstone proudly displayed at the Lockport Cemetery. The old tombstone was worn away with no inscription on it. A plaque will inform future residents of his place in Lockport history and will be installed by his gravesite. His old tombstone will always be honored in our Memorial Grounds with a plaque providing future residents directions to his final resting place.

A fitting event for Memorial Day. Check out our website at www.alegion18.org to find more information on John Olson and Post 18.
