American Legion Auxiliary Unit 291 - Newport Beach, CA

The American Legion Auxiliary – Unit 291, Newport Harbor, completed another of their Troop Shipments on Saturday morning, March 24, 2012. Approximately 30 people arrived to help fill 150 boxes (food/snacks, coffee, candy, cookies, toiletries, books, games, stationery, socks, beanies, etc). Helpers included Auxiliary and Legion members, local guests from Irvine Girl Scout Troop 356 who donated Girl Scout cookies, and Miki Sessler known as the ‘Beanie Lady’ from Huntington Beach – who donated four boxes of hand knitted beanies. Donations of goods and cash came from many generous people including members of Unit 291, various organizations and companies in the Southern California communities.

The boxes are being shipped to service men and women serving in Afghanistan to show support for the work they are doing, far away from their families on behalf of the United States. Troop Shipment was organized by Patricia Wright, Auxiliary e-board member.
