First mission, with the 101st, 594th T.C 106th Tbn. Was headed to Baghdad airport after we captured the city of Iraq in 03, and ran into opposition of getting to the airport - rude awakening for this Mississippi boy who really did not know of the carnage and destruction and chaos war can be. After so many missions of this they finally had to take me off the road; I was a 88 mike/motor transport. They always kept asking me, "was i alright" when I was back at base camp. So i finally returned to the artillery, mortared roads of Iraq and withstand the harsh reality of war. One person KIA during this deployment, Spc. David Nutt; RIP brother. Ssg Dickey; RIP brother.
