John J. Morris Post 62 feeding the community

Peoria, AZ

On Sept. 16 John J. Morris Post 62 in Peoria, Ariz., had an extra opportunity to feed the community. Borderlands Produce On Wheels With-Out Waste had contacted us to do a "pop-up" event because they had gotten a large shipment of items and did not want them to go to waste. The post and some community volunteers came together on under a week's notice to do another event. This event was 30,000 pounds of fruit and vegetables, and we were able to provide food to 330 cars. For the first time we also did a DoorDash event for another 95 families that lived within 10 miles but might not have had transportation to attend the event. With the growing season shifting, our next event will be in December so we can end the year on a high note.

Our group of 30 volunteers that came together with under a week's notice to provide food to our community.

The event begins. 330 cars were given food in just over 90 minutes!
