Post 491 wanted to do something for the veterans in the five local retirement homes in town, so this was the first day trip event in what we expect to be an ongoing program at Post 491. The Randall Residences home was thrilled to have this event where five of their veterans were able to get out for the day and enjoy the comradery of other veterans in three separate Legion posts. They provided their shuttle bus and resident nurse to drive the resident veterans along with the Post 491 chaperones for the afternoon. The trip included stopping at three posts in McHenry County to spend time visiting with the veterans in those posts with food and refreshments. The feedback from the participants and the retirement home was overwhelmingly positive, and they cannot wait for another Operation Liberty Call event. Great job to the chaperones for this heartwarming outreach to these isolated veterans!
