Royal Oak (Mich.) Post 253 helps provide service dog

Royal Oak, MI

The veterans at the Oakmont Assisted Living Center in Rochester Hills, Mich., started a fund to provide a service dog for a Michigan veteran. The cost is in excess of $20,000.
Ron Mexicott of AmLgn Post 253 in Royal Oak learned of this, and secured a donation of $2,500 from the post. This was matched by the 18th District of the AmLgn.
This $5,000 was presented to the Oakmont veterans several months ago, and was enough to put the fund over the top. The dog was secured and put into training.
On Nov. 9, a ceremony was held at Oakmont to introduce Whiskey, the service dog, and his veteran, Steve.
Steve's remarks were a brief, and to the point, "Thank you."
