Heroes heART helps veterans and first responders heal through art

Fredericksburg, VA

American Legion Post 290 veterans welcome fellow veterans and first responders to the post grounds on Mountain View Drive to participate in a program called Heroes heART.
The program supports veterans and first responders in a creative and unique way. Heroes heART reaches out to troubled veterans and first responders to help them create a piece of abstract art that tells a story, in an expression of what's inside the American hero's heart. Participants were in complete awe of the results and hope to continue the program.
.Wounded veteran Zack Herrick and American Legion Post 290 Rider/supporter Rob Webster are pictured at the Stafford Virginia Farmers Market with created art from the Heroes heart event. Artworks were sold to support the program. Joyce Thompson, a member of Post 290's Auxiliary, and a former psychiatric nurse and well-known artist, spoke with several of the participants and was amazed and awed at the results that were achieved.
This story and picture was carried in several Virginia news media, and has resulted in new membership for Post 290.
