Celebrating WWII Army Air Corps veteran Gene DeMar's 98th birthday

Members from American Legion Post 336 (Glen Head, N.Y.), Post 509 (Port Washington, N.Y.), VFW Post 1819 (Port Washington), Young Marines of Long Island, N.Y., and Flower Hill Hose Company firemen celebrated PFC Gene DeMar's 98th birthday on Sunday, Oct 17, with a small parade and ceremony in front of his daughter's home in Port Washington. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Corps HQ Co., 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion in Northern New Guinea, the Philippine Islands, and finally Japan from 1943 to 1946. Carl Ring, age 91 and life member of Post 336, presented Gene with a birthday and best wishes from all in attendance. A beautiful day for a beautiful cause!
