Iwo Jima survivor meets grandson of Woody Williams at Iwo Jima Monument in Connecticut

BRISTOL, CT

97-year-old Joe Caminiit was presented a coin by Hershel "Woody" Williams. Williams, being unable to present the coin in person, had his grandson do the presentation in his place. It was done at the Iwo Jima Monument in Newington, Conn.
Joe had volunteered for a few fundraisers for the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument in Berlin, Conn. Due to COVID-19 they were called off.
Joe was on Iwo Jima at the airstrip and witnessed the flag-raising. Joe was part of a track crew. They landed troops on the beach, ran supplies to forward units, and carried the wounded and dead back from the forward positions for the length of the battle for Iwo Jima.
