I will never forget my first night in boot camp. After being assigned a company at the Recruit Training Center in San Diego, our company commander stood up on the centerboard of the barracks.

"Who here is on no faith or religion?" he asked. Many in the company raised their hands. The company commander then asked who was Catholic, Presbyterian and so on. With that he pointed at so many of the group that were Catholics and said they would get everyone to church on Sunday and so on down the line. In closing, he informed us there is one thing we would do in boot camp and that was go to church on Sundays.
