Story of basic tranning, George Williams 82nd Airborne

I went to Army Basic Training at Ft Leonard Wood MO in the winter of 1962.

It was cold and wet most of the time but and I was there to go Airborne so I
excelled in most of the training.

I also was somewhat of a talker and would chat with anyone. One day a DI fought me chatting in chow line and made me stand at parade rest until all had gone in to eat. Several days later the same DI caught me talking in chow line again, I think he was laying in wait for me, and made me sit in a tree flapping my arms and say "l am a dodo bird and I am going Airborne so I can fly" over and over until all had gone in to eat.

That was a quick learning experience and I shut up and survived Basic.
