Dig a HOLE

Ft. Ord, California Sept 1957.

As a 17 year old recruit in basic training my squad was ordered too recite our serial number one morning at formation. Along with about three others, I could not remember and got it mixed up with my weapon number which we were also had too memorize. _

The result of being forgetful was, we had too dig a foot deep hole, get down on hands and knee's and SHOUT OUR SERVICE Number into that hole for 30 minutes.

I don't know about those other soldier's but I'm going on 80 years now and I sure can recite that number that I WILL PROBABLY be able to do 'till the day I pass.
