Basic training: Army field expediency

I was taking Army ROTC summer camp training at Ft. Riley, KS in 1970. We were bivouacked in the field for a week. The days were hot, sweaty and dusty, and we looked forward to showers at the end of the day for relief. The first day we got our shower was an insight concerning Army field expediency. We were herded into a large sleeping tent with the walls rolled up and wooden pallets on the floor. We noticed a Ft. Riley fire truck and crew about 50 yards to the side. We were then told to strip down and then were hosed with water, we were then told to soap, and then finally told to stand to get rinsed. Needless to say, modesty went out the window but the shower sure did feel good.
