First live hand grenade

Hand Grenades: The first time I threw a live grenade was during basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. I was the first guy to go in the bunker that day. In front of the bunker was a silhouette target on a post. I took the grenade, pulled the pin, and lobbed it toward the target. “Lob” is a key word. You don’t throw a grenade; you are much better off lobbing it. The grenade landed right at the base of the post, exploded, and blew the target away. Everyone else had to toss their grenade at bare ground… not very exciting.
