Yes, I’m from the ‘South!’

March 1951 – Due to a heavy backlog of new recruits, Flight 1014, 3703 Training Squadron, Lackland AFB, Texas was elated to be in a barracks after spending 10 cold nights in tents.
As the flight chief strolled through the lower bay, he said “Airman Marshall! You have an accent! Are you from the South?!” I answered “Yes, Cpl Beasley. I am from South Iowa!”
Thanks, Cpl. Beasley, for accepting an “out of line” response!
