Honoring our post namesake, Robert H. Burns, on the 100th anniversary of his death

Robert H. Burns American Legion Post 16 in Covington, La., honored our namesake. Robert H. Burns, on the 100th anniversary of his death. He was wounded in France on Nov. 10, 1918, and died the next day on Armistice Day. His body was returned almost three years later. Every Veterans Day is special knowing that he gave his life on this special day.
The post was originally known as American Legion Post 16, and when his body was returned the post chose to honor him as our namesake. A picture of him and his sister hangs in the lobby of our post.
