Department of Iowa Centennial Reception

Cedar Rapids, IA

On 20 July, as a part of the 101st Department of Iowa Convention, a reception was held to celebrate the centennial of The American Legion.
Each of the 9 districts was asked to find 5 posts that would come present a bit of their history. They were asked to speak about their namesake, a singular event in history for which they are proud, or some other single item to the audience of the reception. Although the public attendance was sparse, the members of the American Legion Family who attended had a good time and all learned something about these other posts. Also setting up display tables were: American Legion Auxiliary, Sons Of The American Legion, American Legion Riders, Department of Iowa Foundation, American Legion Boys State, Junior Shooting Sports and Department Service Office. The 100th Anniversary Committee Chairman also set a table utilizing the centennial page and focusing on the first commander and first adjutant. It was a good event to celebrate the American Legion Department of Iowa centennial.
