GI Bill gave me a chance to "catch up" with those who did not choose to serve

Richmond, KY

I interrupted my college goals to serve the nation I loved and respected by choosing to enlist in the USAF from 1966-1970. When discharged I resumed my college education in 1972 and finished my B.S. in 1973, then my MS degree in 1978. Without the GI Bill I would never have been able to finish college. While going to school I had to work a full-time job to support my family and myself and finished without taking out student loans. Bought two homes using the GI Bill. I feel the availability of the GI Bill was an equalizer for veterans to use to make up for the time they gave their country. It certainly has enhanced my family's well-being and existence over the long term.
