As The American Legion turns 105 years old, Round Lake Post 1170 recognized Round Lake Police Officer Daniel Arroyo for his service in the U.S. Naval Reserves, deployed from June 3, 2022 through October 9, 2023, with The American Legion Grateful Appreciation Medal during the Round Lake Village board meeting.

While serving overseas with the U.S. Navy, Officer Arroyo missed the birth of his first child. When they were finally reunited, his son was 15 months old. Officer Arroyo's wife and young son joined us for his medal presentation.

Senior Vice Commander Edwin Fuhrmann (U.S. Navy) made the presentation with the assistance of Round Lake Police Chief David Prus as Adjutant Gregory Corcoran (U.S. Army) made brief remarks. The Committee Assembly room was filled with fellow police officers who were there to support one of their own.

When the adjutant asked those present to "Please join us in welcoming Officer Daniel Arroyo home," the applause and cheers were enthusiastic. At the conclusion of the presentation, Officer Arroyo was met outside by Chief Prus, Commander Mike Stevens and each of his fellow officers in turn with a kind word and a warm welcome home handshake.

Officer Arroyo, his wife and young son were kind enough to pose for a picture with the award and Senior Vice Commander Ed Fuhrmann.
